searching for the "One". or the "Two." or "Three."

people submit to people they respect, ultimately. if i didn't respect you, and like you, along with the chemical/physical stuff, i simply wouldn't be *able* to do it. yeah, yeah. it's a need i have, and i have found a place for it eventually, but it's not like i'd just settle for something if it wasn't just right.

this is the core of the concept of the "One" - not that people are searching for their one and only, but because they cannot conceive of giving up a fundamental part of humanity - their control, their freedom, and individual self-interest, if it doesn't somehow seem appreciated and worthwhile to the other person.

it doesn't mean it's not possible with more than one person. it just means it's incredibly hard to find at all, so people feel lucky enough to have found it at all, and stop looking.
